International Women's Day

Supporting Women for Women International to help change the world, one woman at a time.

Edge of Ember

"We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back,"
- Malala Yousefzai, activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner

This International Women's Day is about celebrating the vital contribution that all women make and working towards closing the gender gap.

At Edge of Ember we are an all-girl team, and spreading a positive message of female empowerment is at the heart of what we believe in. This year we are very excited to partner with Women for Women International on their mission to help women survivors of war rebuild their lives.

For the month of March, we are celebrating fearless females around the world with two special necklaces.

£20 from each sale will be donated to the Sponsor a Sister programme to support a woman affected by war and conflict.

The Cause

Right now, there are over forty brutal armed conflicts across the globe. That is a staggering number, and with even more devastating consequences. When there is an outbreak of violence, women are the ones who suffer the most – they experience trauma, sexual violence and the death of children and loved ones. When the conflict is over, it is women who are left to rebuild their families and their lives, while the world’s attention moves on.

Women for Women International supports women who live in some of the world’s most dangerous places. The charity enrols women onto a year-long training programme that equips them with a marketable job skill, practical knowledge about their health and rights and the confidence to make their voices heard at home and in their community. These essential skills help women build a brighter future for themselves and their families.comes in.

To date, Women for Women has helped more than 479,000 marginalised women survivors of war in 8 different countries - Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Sudan.

The Necklaces

We have chosen two 18k gold-plated sterling silver necklaces that represent female empowerment and this cause.

Our Fearless necklace is a nod to the indomitable women out there and their strength and resilience

Our Amethyst necklace with its purple hue represents the colour of today’s International Women’s Day and the historic suffragette movement which made huge leaps for women’s rights.

£20 from the sale of each of these necklaces will be donated to Women for Women International with proceeds going directly to the one year programme that allows them to build a sustainable livelihood.

The Impact

What happens when women survivors of war graduate from the charity’s year-long training programme? They are equipped with the skills, knowledge and resources to become successful entrepreneurs. They gain confidence, and can contribute to their communities. These women also pass on their knowledge to their neighbours and children, creating a positive ripple effect for now and future generations.
