Good things come in sustainable packages

We all know that it’s what’s on the inside that counts, but when it comes to packaging, spare a thought for the 11 million tonnes of packaging waste that we produce in the UK - Every. Single. Year. Yikes.

This statistic has troubled us somewhat because of course, we send our pieces to you packaged in boxes.

Now, as a brand founded on sustainability and ethical production, it’s our job to make sure our packaging is as environmentally friendly as possible - until the day comes of course when we can wrap each piece in compostable hemp ;) So we’ve made a few changes.

Here are some steps that we’ve taken to make our packaging sustainable, reusable, and more friendly to the planet.

  1. We used FSC certified paper. That means that the trees harvested are replaced or allowed to regenerate naturally.
  2. We’ve removed almost everything that render traditional jewellery boxes to be non-recyclable - like box hinges and lamination.
  3. For larger pierces, we use a vegan suede pouch to hold jewellery
  4. We’ve made it green and orange. Ok, that has no sustainable properties, but we wanted to mention it because damn it looks good.

We still haven't found an alternative to foam inserts inside boxes that holds the jewellery, which are important because they protect the pieces we send, but are unfortunately non-recyclable. We are working on alternatives like cardboard inserts wrapped in bamboo material.

Any savvy Edge of Ember customers out there know of sustainable options? Let us know!
