Your November birthstone - the story behind the citrine
How have we already reached the final months of 2019?! Where did this year go? Can we start again? WE WEREN’T READY!
Meltdown aside, happy birthday to our November babies!
You are Scorpios, assertive, determined and decisive – destined to be an absolute female boss. Or Sagittarius, the adventurers of the Zodiac, enthusiastic, optimistic and allergic to routine. We’d have a drink with either of you any day.
Your birthstone is arguably one of the more beautiful – the rich, radiating citrine, a so-called ‘gift from the sun.’
This gemstone is known for its potent healing powers, and a knack for comforting, calming and soothing a bad temper. Ancient civilisations, from the Egyptians to the Romans, put these properties to good use – fashioning rings and talismans from citrine to appease ill-tempered adversaries.
Found mainly in Bolivia, Madagascar, Mexico and Uruguay, the largest known faceted gemstone in existence is a citrine – weighing in at a whopping 8.6lb – bigger than a newborn baby...!
One of the more famous – and our favourite – incarnations of the citrine is found in an Art Deco tiara designed by Cartier for the coronation of King George VI – the 62 carat citrine at its centre can be detached and worn as a brooch. How chic.
